TALK TO AN OHIO BANKRUPTCY ATTORNEY TODAY (614) 523-3106
At Sheppard Law Offices, we understand the financial struggles and difficulties that lead to filing a bankruptcy. In order to ease this burden and help our clients to afford to file for bankruptcy in Columbus, and throughout Ohio, we offer our Ohio bankruptcy clients payment plans, as well as alternative methods to pay for the bankruptcy attorney fees and court costs. Therefore, even if you don't feel that you can afford the cost to file bankruptcy today, our Columbus, Ohio bankruptcy attorneys can still help you to get the process of filing for bankruptcy started at your free consultation.
In every case (either Chapter 7 or Chapter 13), to start the attorney-client relationship, we require a $300.00 retainer. That retainer can be paid in cash, by personal or business check, or by debit card. A person other than the debtor/client can use a credit or debit card to make payment(s) on behalf of the debtor/client. Please note that a debtor/client can only use a debit card (no credit card permitted) to make payment(s). Ohio Bankruptcy Lawyers are not permitted to accept payment in any bankruptcy case using the bankruptcy filers' credit card.
At the time of paying the initial retainer you may begin referring any creditor telephone calls you receive to our office. We will enter into a written fixed fee agreement; we will review and sign some disclosures, and you will be provided a two-page “To-Do” List of the items that we will need to gather from you. Please note that by just paying the initial retainer of $300.00 does not mean that your bankruptcy case is filed.
Note: The initial retainer is included as part of the overall attorney fees, not in addition to the overall attorney fees.
If a debtor/client seeks to make payment by debit card only, or, if a person on behalf of the debtor/client seeks to make payment by either debit or credit card, please do so by paying online. At our online payment center, one-time payments can be made as well as recurring payments which may be selected from a variety of recurring payment options. A receipt will be emailed to the email address provided at the time of submission of the payment.
At Sheppard Law Offices, you get to decide the terms of your payment plan. We understand that you have enough to deal with in getting prepared to file, therefore we do not put any pressure on our bankruptcy clients to pay the remaining balance of their attorney fees and court costs. All we ask for is that your total fees and costs are paid within 1 year of entering into the fixed fee agreement. So, whether it takes you one week, one month, or six months to pay your balance, you are in control of your payment plan. Whether you pay in full or whether you make installment payments, that is also up to you. Just know that we do not begin any preparation of your petition until the entire amount of the fees and costs are paid and the information from the “To-Do” list is turned into our office. Our office policy is that we intend to provide you with a draft copy of your petition for your review within 1 month after receipt of both the full payment of the fees and costs and the information from the “To-Do” list.
You are permitted to use your federal and/or state income tax refunds to pay for your Ohio bankruptcy attorney fees and court costs.
In Chapter 13 cases only, some of the attorney fees can be deferred and paid from the Chapter 13 reorganization plan. This will reduce the upfront cost that our bankruptcy clients will have to pay in order to have their chapter 13 cases filed more promptly. Our bankruptcy attorneys will explain the concept of the “No-Look” Fee. Currently, the “No-Look” Fee is $3,500.00. Our office policy is that we request one-half ($1,750.00) of the “No-Look” Fee to be paid up front and the remaining one-half ($1,750.00) “No-Look” Fee to be paid from the plan. However, in certain cases, at the discretion of Attorney Sheppard, we may adjust the 50/50 fee structure to better serve our Ohio Chapter 13 Bankruptcy clients.
